Rivers advertising is still bad but now also sexist
I have been ranting about Rivers advertising for some time because it is straight up appallingly bad. This new ad is just another example of their (allegedly female) advertising manager having some sort of bet with her friends about how many grating non seqiturs she can incorporate into advertising. My least favourite was the lawnmower audio to advertise unattractive slacks, followed closely by the dolphin sounds for school shoes. Now these feminist Jilly-come-latelies do have a point about Dead Women as an advertising device generally being a pretty rank idea, but what about the fact that the dead woman* has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the products? The attachment of these objectified (but credit where it’s due: rather good) legs to the words, “Deadly Deals” is an affront to advertising service providers everywhere because it is just such a lame advertising proposition. What is their union or peak body on this? Don Draper would be spinning in his grave (if he were not a live fictional character). It seems far more likely that this Uncle Tom female marketing director is just plain bad at her job rather than a lady-hater. And don’t point out that NOW I’M TALKING ABOUT IT because I’m certainly not buying any of it.
* I don’t think she’s really dead.
